Homework: - Go outside a play for a few seconds (gotta enjoy the nice weather while you can)! Today in class we: - Checked in yesterday's homework - Started the mystery mineral lab Tomorrow we will: - Finish the mystery mineral lab Tuesday, October 27th 10/27/2009
Homework: - Complete the mystery mineral practice worksheet. To do this, find the hardness, density, and if the mineral cleaves or fractures. (Use the hints to find this out!). Compare the luster, hardness, and density to the mineral tables on pages 196-198. When you find a match, write down the mineral name and fill in any other missing information.
Today in class we: - Went over yesterday's homework. - Took notes on the special properties of minerals and how to identify minerals.
Tomorrow in class we will: - Check in tonight's homework - Using lab equipment, data tables, and procedures, identify three unknown minerals. Monday, October 26th 10/26/2009
Homework: - You need your book (table on pg. 122)! Complete the mineral hardness activity worksheet.
Today in class we: - Learned how to find the hardness of a mineral through a lab Tomorrow in class we will: - Review the hardness lab - Discuss special properties of minerals - Wrap up mineral identification notes Friday, October 23rd 10/23/2009
Homework: - Review your notes on mineral characteristics. You should be able to tell me the four characteristics, provide detailed explanations of each, name three mineral groups, and list the characteristics of each group. Today in class we: - Reviewed the property density. - Took notes on mineral hardness.
On Monday we will: - Do a lab in which we practice finding the hardness of minerals Thursday, October 22nd 10/22/2009
Homework: - Answer conclusion questions 1-5 on your density lab sheet.
Today in class we: - Finished the density lab - Learned how to use a Wiimote to make a SmartBoard Tomorrow we will: - Take notes on mineral hardness - Try to organize minerals based on their hardness Wednesday, October 21st 10/21/2009
Homework: - Review notes on density (what's the equation, how do you find mass and volume, what is the unit of density?) Today in class we: - Reviewed the homework from yesterday - Practiced finding the volume of non-prismatic objects (like minerals) - Started the density lab Tomorrow in class we will: - Finish the density lab - Discuss the results and conclusions of the density lab - Take notes on mineral hardness Tuesday, October 20th 10/20/2009
Homework: - Complete the calculating density worksheet. Hints: * The answer to #1 is not 2.2g (look closely! There are three riders!) * For #4, divide the mass and volume by 2, then calculate the density. Did the density change?
Today in class we: - Checked in our homework from yesterday - Review the important topics of mass and weight - Took notes on volume - Practiced finding the volume of non-prismatic objects Tomorrow in class we will: - Check in tonight's homework - Review volume - Find the density of four objects Monday, October 19th 10/19/2009
Homework: - Read and answer the questions on the cleaving and fracturing article.
Today in class we: - Finished notes on cleaving and fracturing - Answered questions 14-20 on notes review sheet 2.2SQ - Learned about density, its equation, and mass - Discussed how mass and weight are not the same measurement Tomorrow in class we will: - Discuss volume and learn how to determine it for non-geometric objectcs - Practice finding volume of objects Thursday, October 15th 10/15/2009
Homework: - Read and answer questions from the luster article (online copy will be available soon!)
Today in class we: - Reviewed the streak article - Reviewed the streak lab - Took notes on luster, discussed types of non-metallic luster - Did the luster lab Tomorrow in class we will: - Check-in the luster article questions - Complete next section of 2.2SQ review sheet - Discuss cleaving and fracturing of minerals Wednesday, October 14th 10/14/2009
Homework: - Read the streak article and answer the questions. - Review mineral classification (silicates, carbonates, etc.)
Today in class we: - Reviewed yesterday's notes with questions 1-9 on notes review sheet 2.2. - Practiced finding the streak of minerals Tomorrow in class we will: - Discuss mineral luster - Practice identifying the luster of minerals | |||||||||||||||||||||
