Homework: Wednesday, February 10th 02/10/2010
Homework: - Complete worksheet (download below) question 1-8 (#9 is optional!) - NOTE: Number 8 has an error in it. The question should say "In a sample rock there are 100,000,000 atoms..." not 1,000,000,000. The copy below has the correction in it.
Today in class we: - Finished notes 5.3 (I'll post them later tonight or tomorrow morning) - Learned how to count the number of half lives - Learned how long a half life can be for certain elements - Learned how to find the age of a rock using half lives. Homework: Tuesday, February 9th 02/09/2010
Homework: - Study, study, study! Today in class we: - Started notes 5.3 (no they're not online) - Did an activity to see how atoms decay - Saw that the rate at which half the atoms decay in a sample remains constant Activity Link 02/09/2010
PhET Beta Decay - Use this link to get to our in-class activity today. Homework: Monday, February 8th 02/08/2010
Homework: - Study for your test! - Read pages 119-122. Bring any questions with you to class tomorrow. Today in class we: - Took notes on index fossils (available online!) - Did an activity to see what index fossils can reveal about earth's layers.
Homework: Thursday, February 4th 02/04/2010
Homework: - Complete the review and reinforce worksheet (#4.2). Do not answer question 4. Sorry, I can't post a copy of the worksheet online. - Review your notes - Work on your study guide Today in class we: - Reviewed intrusions and extrusions. - Reviewed how to identify intrusions and extrusions. - Reviewed the principles of inclusion and cross cutting relationships - Took notes on faults and types of unconformities - Practiced identifying unconformities - Practiced finding the relative age of layers containing faults, folds, intrusions, and unconformities. Homework: Tuesday, February 2nd 02/02/2010
Homework: - Read pages 113-116 (stop at Using Fossils) Today in class we: - Discussed why sedimentary rocks are used for relative age - Discussed the law of superposition - Discussed how earth's plates disrupt horizontal rock layers - Discussed anticlines and synclines and Homework: Monday, February 1st 02/01/2010
Homework: - No homework. :) Today in class we: - Reviewed our fossils notes by answer questions - Started notes on relative age. Announcement: Final Grades are Posted! 01/29/2010
Your final grades for quarter two have been posted. Good job this quarter! Homework: Wednesday, January 27th 01/27/2010
Homework: - Read pages 110-112 - Answer question #9 on the Fossils Worksheet (we did all the other questions on it and went over the answers last week. Title is Section 4-1 Fossils) Homework: Monday, January 25th 01/25/2010
Homework: - Review observations and inferences. Think about the inferences you can make from looking at dinosaur footprints (or any other trace fossil). Here were the observations. You should have an inference for each of these: Qualitative: 1. Footprints have sharp toes. 2. Footprints have rounded toes. 3. The sets footprints are not the same. 4. The footprints intersect. 5. A set of footprints changes directions. 6. A set of footprints had shadows within it; the others do not. 7. A set of footprints leaves where the two sets intersected, the others do not. Quantitative: 1. Footprints B have a stride 3-4mm (scaled) larger than footprints A. 2. Footprints B measure 9mm (scaled) in length, footprints A measure 4mm. 3. Footprints B stride increased from 3-4mm to 12-15mm. Footprints A remained unchanged. Today in class we: - Received our unit four tests back - Finished our footprint observations and practiced making inferences | |||||
