Frequently Asked Questions

There are a lot of questions that come up during the school year. You can find these questions, and answers, below. If you do have a question that is not on this page, please ask! :-)

1. What supplies do I need for science?
You will need your textbook, science folder (folder, binder, or expandable) with a notebook or loose-leaf paper, a pen or pencil, and your assignment notebook. You will need these will you every day. On occasion you will need colored pencils, markers, and a ruler.

2. What happens if I am late to class?
If you are late to class, you must enter quietly, sign the red folder, and go to your seat. If you have a pass from a teacher, please give the pass to me and go directly to your seat. You do not have to sign the red folder if you are excused.

3. What do I do if I forgot some of my materials?
If you forget your supplies (science folder, homework, textbook, pen or pencil), please raise your hand at the beginning of class. You will need permission to leave the room to get your materials.

4. What is the red folder?
The red folder is used to track how prepared you are in class, how you behave in class, and your timeliness in class.

5. What are some reasons to sign the red folder?
- You are late to class
- You are not following the classroom rules
- You forgot supplies in your locker
- Your homework is not complete

6. Where can I find my grades?
Grades are available online via the Parent Portal.

8. Can I redo an assignment if I do poorly on it?
Absolutely! However, it must be done prior to the test for the unit.

9. Can I work on other homework if there is time in class? Can I read a book if I finish my work early?

Please ask me if you wish to do these. There may be another activity you can start on or homework that I have not yet announced.

10. What should I do if I lose an assignment?
If you lose a worksheet, lab packet, a set of notes, etc., please see me right away. Notes are usually available online the same day that they are given to you in class. But please check with me to see if I have an additional copy to give you.

11. What is my science folder?
Your science folder is used to keep everything until the next test. For example, our first test will be on basic science principles and minerals. Until that test, you need to keep all of your notes, warm-ups, homework, and labs in your folder.

This is setup this way so that you do not have to carry a big ol’ binder of lots of notes, worksheets, etc. You only need to bring your folder to class which has what you need.

12. What should I do if I am absent?
If you are absent:
1. Check 7bscience.com's homework page to see what you missed. Complete any work before returning to school.
2. Check with me to receive anything that was no put on the web site.

13. What are we going to learn about this year?
Quite a lot! In the first half of the year we are going to focus on geology. This will include minerals, rocks, fossils, geologic time, and lots of sparkly things that will make you say “Oooooo!”

In the second half of the year we are going to focus on biology. This will include microscopes, microorganisms, cells, simple animals, and plants.
